Hello

Hope we are all enjoying the World Cup? By the time you read this England may well have made it through to the last 16 following a commanding (or lucky) performance against Slovenia, dismissing all talk of a rift in the camp and players not fulfilling their potential.

Alternatively we may have gone the way of France and limped out of the World Cup tails firmly between our legs.

In the tennis Andy Murray has probably his best chance ever to win Wimbledon with a very favourable draw and a recent great show of form in reaching the final of the Australian Open……

It’s all very tense and I for one am not sure I can take it.

So, to take our minds off it for a bit we’re filling our weekend with music starting at The Crawley Folk Festival on Friday before taking a short hop East to The Grey Lady in Tunbridge Wells on Sunday 27th where we’ll be joining Paul Dunton’s merry throng from 8:00pm.

More details on our website at www.octoberrising.com or go to

Hope you can drag yourselves away from the TV long enough to make it down!

Cheers

John & Mike.

Hello

A quick note to say that for those of you not stranded abroad by volcanic ash we are playing the Half Moon in Putney this coming Monday 26th.

This is an extremely prestigious venue with an impeccable rock n roll reputation (having played host to The Rolling Stones, John Martyn, U2 and The Who in its time) which is only ever so slightly watered-down by the fact that Right Said Fred are playing the month after us.

However, don’t let that deter you from coming on down and enjoying a mellow start to the week with 8 emerging acoustic artists for just £2.50.  That’s 31p per act!

For full line-up and more info click here:

You can also buy advance tickets from the Half Moon website and clicking on ‘gig guide’.

Hello!

Having just got the video footage from our last gig & booked a bunch of new ones in for the coming months, we just had to let you know all about it!

As always we start with a big thank-you to all of you who came down to The Grey Lady in Tunbridge wells in January. We had a great time, and enjoyed both the venue and all the other acts that played there. Kent legend Dan Clews headlined, and he’s well worth checking out at www.myspace.com/danclews

The promoter, Paul Dunton, as well as also performing a great set on the night himself had this to say about us….

“October Rising are a very talented duo. Their combination of thought-provoking lyrics, crafted melodies and versatile harmonies prove them to be an absorbing live act.”

If you don’t believe him you can see footage of the gig on our website here:

www.octoberrising.com/media/

(Big shout out to Dave Andrews for the vids!)

In fact, we had such a great time, we’re going back on Wednesday the 24th March and we hope to see some of the same faces, as well as some new ones there.

Full details of the night can be found here:

Happy New Year!

I trust we are all freezing our extremities off and enjoying the usual seasonal tussle with the UK transport network! As usual you only have to whisper the word snow and the roads shut down and the trains either get cancelled or are so packed with people that you start to empathise with battery chickens.

Personally I like nothing better than spending my train journey to work face pressed firmly into a stranger’s armpit. Exhilarating…….

Anyway, moving swiftly on to things musical we’ve a couple of announcements.

Firstly, we’ve been back into the studio and have 2 brand new tracks for you to listen to and download from our myspace at www.myspace.com/octoberrisingmusic or on the home page of our website.

Please check them out and let us know what you think.

Secondly, we’ve got our first gig of the year on Sunday 17th Jan and we’d love for you to come along.

We’re playing at a great little venue called ‘The Grey Lady’ in Tunbridge Wells and we’re on at 8pm. The sound is fantastic and they also do great food.

The artists playing on the night are all auditioned & hand-picked by the promoter so it promises to be a great night!

Follow this link for a PDF file with more info on who’s playing (link opens in new window).

Hope to see you there!

Hello

A big THANK-YOU to everyone who came down to see our inaugural London gig at The RoadTrip last week.

Despite it being ridiculously wet a surprising number of you braved the downpour to come & see us, which was great.  The promoter on the night also had the following to say about the gig which was nice!

October Rising sing and play Americana-inspired folk with a current edge and fiery passion like no other act. This duo are definitely ones to watch as I’m sure they’ll be rising up the ranks of the folk scene quickly.” (John B @ Reel Concerts)

There are some photos of the gig up on our website (courtesy of Gary C) on the media page, so please check them out and leave us a comment!

Our next gig (and last gig of the year) is on Weds 9th December at Belushi’s in Covent Garden, we’re on at 9:30pm and it’s another FREE one.  Be really good to see you there, especially as it’s my birthday that week and I’ll be celebrating with a drink or three on the night!

Cheers

John

As promised we’ve been busy scouring London for some gigs and are pleased to announce we’ve booked 2 fantastic gigs this side of Christmas, and what’s even better they’re both FREE entry!

The first is on Thursday 12th November (not Wednesday as previously advertised!) at The RoadTrip bar on Old Street. The RoadTrip is a great venue for acoustic music nestled in the heart of uber-cool Hoxton. It’s very close to Old Street tube station (or a short bus ride to Liverpool St or London Bridge), the sound is intimate, the vibe is excellent and they apparently do great food.

The first act starts about 8pm and we’re on at 9pm.

Hope to see you there!

Mike & John

p.s. if you’ve not had a chance to check out our new tracks please go to the home page where you can download them for free.

Blog

So. This is it. A new beginning. For those of you who know us, you know the history, but for anyone new a brief recap.

Mike & I were in a band called SilverSky together for years. He played guitars, I played bass. We went through a couple of different line-ups, had a little success did alot of gigs, worked our asses off and had some great times. We also had some terrible times and got our fingers burnt on a few occasions.

So now we’re doing something just for us. If other people like it (and we of course hope they do) then great, but for the first time, in a long time, we’re putting ourselves first..

If we like a song it’s in. If we don’t like it, it’s out. It’s that simple now.

Anyway, enough rambling, there are 2 new tracks up (and available for download) from our recent foray to SquareHead studios in Kent. We hope you enjoy them as much as we do.

Cheers

John
